SPIC MACY’s FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION TO BE

INAUGURATED BY PRESIDENT OF INDIA AT IIM-C, KOLKATA

SPIC MACAY is a non-profit, non-political, voluntary movement working towards preserving our rich and diverse cultural heritage and propagating it to the youth of the present generation. We are working amongst the youth in schools and colleges since last 35 years. In the current year, 2012-13, we have conducted about 7,500 events in approximately 400 towns in India and 50 abroad.We are delighted to announce the first ever International Convention of SPIC MACAY in its 36th year existence, at IIM-C, Kolkata from MAY 20 to 26, 2013. Hon’ President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee has kindly consented to inaugurate this Convention, at 11 am on May 20, 2013 at IIM Calcutta. A copy of the schedule is attached.

The International Convention, a congregation of art, music and heritage will feature some of the living legends and icons of India like Smt Girija Devi, Prof. T.N. Krishnan, Pt. Birju Maharaj, Vidwan T.V. Shankaranarayanan, Pt. Shivkumar Sharma and others. The Convention aims to provide a glimpse of India's composite heritage to the youth. More than 1500 school and college students from around the country and abroad are expected to experience the age-old ashram jeevan during this Convention with exposure to Nadayoga, Hatayoga, meditation, workshops with famous Gurus of different art forms, concerts in the evening, including overnight concerts, classic film screenings, folk arts, crafts workshops by master craftspeople ,heritage walks, talks by eminent persons etc.

Students will have to bear only their travel expenses to reach Kolkata and back, while all other needs like local stay, local transportation, food etc. will be free. A number of youngsters from different parts of the world like UK, USA, Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong, Pakistan and Germany, etc are expected to experience this opportunity to get life-long Inspiration.
