NAAD BHED - SPIC MACAY PRESENTS

A REALITY TV SHOW ON CLASSICAL MUSIC

SPIC MACAY is a non-profit, non-political, voluntary movement working towards preserving our rich and diverse cultural heritage and propagating it to the youth of the present generation. We are working amongst the youth in schools and colleges since last 35 years. In the current year, 2012-13, we have conducted about 7,500 events in approximately 400 towns in India and 50 abroad.To inspire the youth by our classical music and to encourage and reward the best practitioners amongst them SPIC MACAY plans to produce a serious reality TV show in association with national broadcaster Doordarshan.

Recently, a gamut of music reality shows, through various private TV channels, has caught the attention of the viewing public. SPIC MACAY feels that a similar platform can be used for promoting and popularising our classical arts. We propose to organise an All India competition of classical music- NAAD BHED, which, with the support of Doordarshan, would be broadcast across the country.

SPIC MACAY would produce the program, in association with Doordarshan, taking on board great maestros of Indian classical music as judges, like Prof. T. N. Krishnan, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Begum Parween Sultana, Vidwan T.V. Shankarnaraynan, Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia etc. The proposed format is designed to attract participation from all states of the country through regional rounds at Doordarshan’s 18 regional Kendras, culminating in the National Final that shall be aired on DD National. We sincerely hope that this initiative would promote and popularise our classical music all over the country.

We are also talking with Sh. Amitabh Bachchan and / or Smt. Shabana Azmi to host the show.

There are SIX award categories that shall be given out as part of the show:

Pt. Bhimsen Joshi Yuva Puraskar (Hindustani vocal), Pt. Ravi Shankar Yuva Puraskar (Hindustani instrumental), Ustad Alla Rakha Yuva Puraskar (Hindustani Accompanist), Smt. M.S. Subbulakshmi Yuva Puraskar (Carnatic vocal), Vidwan Sheikh Chinna Moulana Yuva Puraskar (Carnatic instrumental); Vidwan Palghat Mani Iyer Yuva Puraskar (Carnatic Accompanist)

In each category the winners will receive `5 lacs as cash reward. Besides all finalists at the National Level will receive `10,000/- as appreciation reward.

Guidelines

Eligibility Criteria:

●     Should be below 26 years of age on 30 June 2013

●     Should have been learning Indian classical music for at least the last 4 years

Categories:

●     Vocal

●     Instrumental

Procedure -

●     Send a CD of their music recording (in case one cannot send a CD, the applicant can get in touch with us)

○             Hindustani or Carnatic 

○             Vocal or Instrumental

●     Bio data including details of how many years they have been learning for and from whom

●     Bio data of the teacher

●     Recommendation from the teacher, also validating the number of years the student has been learning music

●     One other recommendation

Accompanists with the Competitor who is shortlisted

●     A maximum of two (2) accompanists will be allowed to accompany the competitor. However, a competitor in the vocal category, in addition to the two accompanists, will be allowed to play tanpura or swarmandal himself/ herself

●     Accompanists (on mridangam, violin, tabla, harmonium or tanpura) can be provided on a request made when shortlisted

Participation Fee:

Participation fee for the competition is Rs. 150/- The participation fee should be sent with the application form through a demand draft drawn in favour of SPIC MACAY, payable at New Delhi
